Woman accused of burglary of security guard’s room with intent to steal

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City woman living in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, has been accused of burglary with intent to steal from a security guard’s room at the La Isla Bonita Yacht Club.

According to police, acting upon information received on Sunday, January 14, at about 5:00 p.m., of a burglary report at La Isla Bonita Yacht Club, police officers visited Room #12B where they met with Robert Koofman, 58, who reported that he was socializing with his family and decided to go into his room and upon entering the room, he saw a shirt on his bed and decided to put it into his bag and when he turned around, he saw a slim built dark skinned female dressed in a black blouse and a white slippers. According to Koopman, he had never seen the woman before and did not give her permission to enter his premises.

The woman has been identified as 32-year-old Victoria Rufina Alvarez of Lawrence Avenue, Belize City. She pleaded not guilty, insisting she had not entered the room and had no reason to do so.

Alvarez was set bail of $3,000 and a surety contingent on her not interfering with the virtual complainant or the Yacht Club.

Alvarez was charged in 2023 with theft and was out on bail for that charge. On this charge, she returns to court on March 19 in San Pedro Town.
