By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) match between Altitude and Wagiya scheduled for Saturday has been postponed and will be played as a back match at a date to be agreed upon by both teams.
PLB sources said both teams agreed to postpone the match due to the number of players that left the country on Thursday with the Under 20 Belize Men’s National Team (U20 BMNT) that is travelling to Managua, Nicaragua to compete in the Concacaf Under-20 Championship.
Wagiya have four U20 BMNT players, namely goalkeeper Carlos Palacio, defenders Clay Flores and Darren Villafranco, and forward Oziel Martinez, while Altitude have Santiago Maquin.
Though Altitude, Verdes, and Benque Viejo United have one player each and Police Benque have two in the U20 BMNT, Wagiya are the most affected because their four players are starters.
The PLB source said Wagiya is currently in negotiation with Police Benque, who have two players in the U20 BMNT (goalkeeper Elijah Pelayo and forward Jose Iglesias), to postpone their game scheduled for Sunday, March 3, as their U20 BMNT players wouldn’t be available for that game either.
The U20 BMNT would be leaving Nicaragua that very day.
