One dead, seven others rescued from overturned boat in rough seas

By Aaron Humes: Reports from the Belize Coast Guard and media sources say one of eight men traveling aboard a vessel in the Turneffe Atoll Range sometime this afternoon. 

Ambergris Today reports that a boat carrying Armando Graniel and his workers, of Graniel’s Construction in San Pedro Town, overturned earlier this morning between Turneffe Atoll and English Caye. 

The Belize Coast Guard are said to have directly rescued three individuals and transported all seven plus one believed dead to Dangriga. One of the remaining six is said to be at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital receiving further treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently being investigated by police, however, weather reports today called for fairly heavy swells of between three and six feet in an easterly to southeasterly wind, though weather was otherwise fair.
