Premier League of Belize: Police Benque down Wagiya 2-0 in Week 8 backmatch

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Police Benque (Club Deportivo Benque) defeated Wagiya 2-0 in the Week 8 backmatch of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2023-24 Closing Championship played on Thursday night at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.

Nadir Ayala scored the first goal in the 19^th minute and Jeromy ‘Jarro’ James sealed the win in the 27^th minute.

The game, initially scheduled for Sunday, March 3, at Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, had to be postponed since Wagiya faced the absence of four key starting players who were with the Under-20 Belize Men’s National Team participating in the U20 Concacaf Championship Qualifiers in Nicaragua.

Thursday night’s victory was Police Benque’s first win in nine games in which they’ve drawn two and lost six. Police Benque totalled five points and climbed out of last place over Bandits who are now in the cellar with four points.

Despite the loss, Wagiya remain in sixth place with six points. So far, they’ve won two games and lost six.

Wagiya still have another backmatch pending. They are scheduled to play their Week 7 game against Altitude, which was previously postponed for the same reason, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 24
