Belize crush Puerto Rico 3-0 in 2nd friendly match in Belmopan

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize played a much better game than Thursday and downed Puerto Rico 3-0 on Sunday evening at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.

Michael Salazar scored the opener in the 43^rd minute giving the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) a sense of calm during the break.

They returned to the field with added impetus in the second half and by the 55^th led 2-0 after Warren Moss shook the net.

Under 20 player Felix Martinez entered the match and scored his first goal with the Belize Men’s National Team at the senior level in the 74^th minute for the final 3-0 over Puerto Rico.

The Caribbean side had held the BMNT to a 1-1 on Thursday at the same venue.

Carlos Bernardez scored for Belize in the sixth minute in that game, but Puerto levelled in the 20^th off a goal by Darren Ríos.

Coach David Pérez made a number of initial changes for Game 2 fielding goalkeeper Charles Tillett along with Alence Ayala, Nahjib Guerra, Owen Sosa, and Krisean Lopez. Later, he inserted Martinez, Gabriel Ramos, Jr., and Jardehl Muschamp.

Both Belize and Puerto Rico are getting ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers. Belize is playing in Concacaf’s Group D and will be facing Panama, Nicaragua, Guyana, and Montserrat.
