Trio for graveyard murder back in court – preliminary inquiry set as prisoners claim abuse

Posted: Sunday, March 24, 2024. 2:59 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A date for preliminary inquiry into charges of murder against Ladyville residents Samuel Trapp, 28, Robert Lamb, 23, and Kevin Lanza, 26, has been set.

The trio are accused of the murder of 18-year-old Gabriel Tillett inside the Lord’s Ridge Cemetery on July 4, 2023.

On Friday they appeared in Magistrate’s Court and were presented with disclosure for the case. Their preliminary inquiry was set for May 3, 2024, when they could be committed to the High Court for trial.

In court, two of the accused men, Trapp and Lanza, all of whom are still unrepresented, had disturbing allegations to make against persons behind bars who they claim have been abusing them while on remand.

Trapp said prison inmates have made attempts to sexually violate him and his complaints to authorities have gone unresponded to. Lanza also claimed to have been sexually violated and placed in “the hole” – solitary confinement.

Lanza approached defense attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley in court and he has promised to look into the matter. The Magistrate also promised to further address the matter at the next court date.

Gabriel Tillett was found dead with facial injuries on the morning of July 4. The accused were connected to the crime by surveillance cameras in the area of Pitter Street and Antelope Street Extension.
