Mexican Alan Carrillo of Team Zorros wins 2nd Vuelta Maya in Mérida, Mexico; Carlton Robinson, Edgar Nissan Arana finish in Top 5

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Mexican Alan Carrillo of Team Zorros won the 2nd Vuelta Maya in Mérida, Mexico after beating the field by approximately five minutes in the Individual Time Trial, according to initial reports by Santino Castillo.

Castillo said the officials were still tabulating the final results but from initial reports Mexican Manuel Serrano finished second in the General Classification and  Belizeans Carlton Robinson and Edgar Nissan Arana would be in the Top Five but the order still wasn’t clear. Santino’s Belize rider Joslyn Chavarria would be also be in the Top 10.

After the first two stages, Robinson of Team Belize was leading after winning the first two stages on Friday and Saturday with a combined time of four hours, 55 minutes and 53 seconds and a lead of 22 seconds.

On Friday, Robinson set a new record by 14 minutes and 23 seconds when he won the 75-mile stage in 2:46:06. Then on Saturday, he clinched Stage 2 in 2:09:47.

Arana, riding for Mexican Team SKY, was second in the General Classification behind Robinson with a time of 4:56:15. Arana finished third on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday, he clocked 2:46:16 and on Saturday his time was 2:09:59.

Chavarria of Team Santino’s Belize, was fourth in the General Classification in 4:56:41. Chavarria finished in the 46-man peloton led by Robinson on Friday in 2:46:21 and fourth in Stage 2 on Saturday in 2:10:20.

The other Belizean in the Elite race, Byron Pope of Team Belize, was 11th in the General Classification with a time of 4:59:03. Pope, like Chavarria, Arana, and Robinson finished in the 46-man lead peloton on Friday and finished 11th in Stage 2 on Saturday in 2:12:42.
