Minister of Education reiterates Belize’s full support of Taiwan’s right to self-determination, peace, and prosperity

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “Belize fully supports the right of the people of Taiwan to self-determination, peace, and prosperity,” said Minister of Education Francis Fonseca on Friday morning at the orientation ceremony for 52 Belizean students who were awarded academic scholarships by the Government of Taiwan.

“Taiwan has been and continues to be a stellar member of the global community and fully deserves the right to participate and contribute at all levels to a better more developed world community,” the Minister added.

Taiwan is threatened by China, which rejects its inclusion in the United Nations and other international agencies and organizations.
Minister Fonseca was thanking the Government of Taiwan for the support it affords Belize, particularly with scholarships for Belize students. This year, Taiwan granted Belize 52 scholarships, 38 through the Taiwan Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) and 14 through the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

“On behalf of the Government of Belize and the Ministry of Education, I wish to place on record our deep gratitude, our thanks to the Government and People of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their steadfast and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of Belize through meaningful investments in our people, meaningful investments in education,” said Minister Fonseca.

“This program is a great example of the strong, dynamic, mutually beneficial relationship that Belize and Taiwan enjoy.”
