By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes will find out this evening who their opponents will be in the CONCACAF Central American Cup at the virtual draw that will be held today at 5:00 pm (7:00 pm in Miami).

Twenty Central American clubs are participating in the draw: four each from Costa Rica and Honduras, three each from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama, two from Nicaragua, and Verdes from Belize.

After the draw this evening day, the teams will know exactly who they will be playing at home and who they will be playing away. Out of the 20 teams, four groups of five will be drawn. And that means that each team will play four games; two at home and two away.

The group stage runs from August 1-31, the quarterfinals will be held at the end of September, the semifinals and the play-in in October and the finals in November and December. The tournament should be over at the latest by December 7.

At today’s draw, CONCACAF is using what they call a single blind system involving five pots. Verdes are in Pot 5, which comprises Nicaraguan clubs Diriangen and Real Esteli and Jocoro from El Salvador. So, they will be drawn against one team each from pots 1-4. What’s certain is that their opponents will not be Diriangen, Real Esteli or Jocoro.
