By BBN Staff:  The Hawkesworth Bridge and the Macal River Park have both benefited from improved lighting courtesy of the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council.

Pedestrians had been complaining of poor lighting when crossing the Hawkesworth bridge at night and some residents even considered it dangerous as individuals had been assaulted, and even raped, on the Santa Elena side of the bridge. Mayor of the twin towns, Earl Trapp Jr., had promised to address this problem and he has delivered on his promise.

Earlier this week, the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council announced that lights have also been installed at the Macal River Park in San Ignacio. The Park was recently renovated with new colorful painting making it even more attractive for children, youths and families to spend quality time together.

Residents in the communities of San Ignacio and Santa Elena make much use of the park by celebrating children’s birthday parties and having family picnics, mostly on weekends. With the renovations of and new lighting, it is now possible for residents to make more use of the park at night.

These 2 positive achievements comes on the heels of negative publicity received by the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council after a video, featuring 2 of its senior employees, went viral.
