Sunday, May 11, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: Police in Punta Gorda town are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting incident in that has left a woman dead and her family and community in shock.

The victim has been identified as 26 year old Janice Vargas, a resident of the Indianville area of PG.

The shooting happened sometime after 1 o’clock this morning inside a building which houses the Jamaica Bar where Vargas has only recently gained employment.

Preliminary information received say that the establishment closed at midnight and what transpired after that and leading up to the shooting which claimed the life of the young lady is now the subject of the official police investigation.

Family members believe that Vargas’ two year old daughter may have witnessed the shooting of her mother who was shot in the upper right shoulder.

After she was found mortally wounded, Vargas was rushed to the Punta Gorda town hospital and later was being transported via ambulance to the Southern Regional hospital in Dangriga when she died.

Vargas’ aunt Patra Jacobs describes her niece as a quiet person, who was always by herself and “did not mess with anyone.”

A motive for the tragic murder has not yet been ascertained but Jacobs and the rest of the family are calling on the PG police to “do a proper investigation to find out who shot Janice Vargas.”

According to the aunt: “she never deserved to die this way.”
