UHS motion to be tabled in January

BBN Staff: The motion to be presented to parliament by Prime Minister Dean Barrow on whether or not to pay the $90 million UHS debt was not tabled at yesterday’s House meeting. PM Barrow, however, said it would be brought to parliament by mid-January.

According to Barrow, GOB is awaiting a certificate from the court before the motion is tabled. The certificate, which stipulates the amount due is to be issued 21 days after the initial ruling, by December 13.

Barrow also said there would not be any payment unless the House of Representatives votes to appropriate the money as the constitution states that money from Belize’s consolidated revenue fund cannot be used without full consent from parliament.
