PM Barrow: Imer Hernandez cleared from all allegations

By BBN Staff: Prime Minister Dean Barrow told the media yesterday that despite consistent criticism the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has cleared controversial contractor, Imer Hernandez, for continued work.

While the quality of work that Hernandez conducts is being questioned, he has been awarded numerous government road-works contracts.

Hernandez is the nephew of former Deputy Prime Minister, Gaspar Vega and documents revealed by the media in February of 2019 showed a vast amount of contracts issued to Hernandez.

At that time, Barrow said that Hernandez is entitled to continue to bid for contracts.

On December 2, 2019, Hernandez signed another contract for works on the Coastal Road.

That contract is valued over $130 million and is scheduled to be completed within 36 months. Lot 1 is valued at $63 million and lot 2 at $70 million.

But, PM Barrow says that after an audit of the Inter American Development Bank, Imer was issued a letter clearing him.

Barrow said that they (IDB) obviously feel that Imer performs extremely well, “…that is what they are saying.”

When asked if the IDB’s audit was of the finances or the quality of road works, Barrow said that it was of both.
