Tourism Industry Association hosts forum on the future of tourism in Belize

Posted: Friday, July 24, 2020. 4:40 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) gathered its members, along with representatives from the health sector and financial institutions at the best Western Biltmore Plaza, to host a forum looking at the future of tourism in Belize.

The event, titled “Belize Tourism Industry: Charting a Way forward,” gathered panelists and moderators for interactive sessions based on five key topics. Those topics included: Health and Safety: will the protocols work; Marketing in a post-COVID-19 world; Financing the income gap; No tourism without tourists: when, where, and how will they come; and A new tourism vision for Belize.

BTIA Executive Director John Burgos said that the sessions will be geared towards looking at the positives that the pandemic has brought to Belize such as a greater appreciation for local travelers, while looking towards how best to adapt to the negatives.

Burgos also said that two of the association’s officers are charged with documenting all discussions held at the forum to generate a report after the fact.

“What the BTIA will be doing is that we will have a little report and we will be sharing that report with the government, the National Oversight Committee, and, of course, our members and stakeholders so they can have a more detailed understanding of where we are for each one of those panel discussions,” Burgos said.
