Belize Weather: A state of (Hurricane) Grace

By Aaron Humes: While it did not strike Belize, we will not be spared from the effects of Hurricane Grace, which is set to impact our weather for the next few days according to the National Meteorological Service.

Skies will be mostly cloudy today with showers and thunderstorms countrywide, starting inland this afternoon and spreading to most areas tonight.

High temperatures are 87 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 96 degrees inland, and 81 in the hills. Tonight it will be 81 degrees along the coast, 74 degrees inland, and 68 degrees in the hills.

Winds start from the south to southwest at 5 to 10 knots, becoming east to southeast at 10 to 20 knots. Sea state is rough and a small craft warning is in effect for large dangerous waves and rough seas. Small craft should remain in safe harbor. Additionally, there is a flood watch in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas for the next few days.

Tides will be high at 6:53 this morning and 8:50 this evening and low at 2:33 this afternoon. Sunset this evening is at a quarter past six and sunrise Friday morning is at 5:36.

The impacts continue on Friday with cloudy to overcast skies, showers, isolated thunderstorms, and rain countrywide, increasing at nighttime.
