The Miss Garifuna Belize Crown Stays in Dangriga

Tuesday, November 11, 2014. GWEN NUNEZ GONZALEZ Reporting: Beautiful Dangriga can boast of a back to back crown for the Miss Garifuna Belize Title.

Seven energetic, talented, creative, and ambitious young Garifuna ladies showcased their Garifuna pride during the Annual Miss Garifuna Cultural Pageant on Saturday, November 8^th, 2014 at the Fr. Marin Parish Hall in beautiful Dangriga.

They had to demonstrate their ability to dance Hungu Hungu, Chumba, Combination, Punta, and Gunjai.

They also had to do an introduction, main item, and answer question in Garifuna.

At the end Miss Garifuna Dangriga 17 year old Dahjah Casimiro kept the crown in beautiful Dangriga as she was crowned by Miss Garifuna Belize 2013/14 who was also Miss Dangriga 2013/14 Ms. Aleesha Bermudez.

Big up is in order for Aleesha Bermudez for reigning with pride and dignity and was able to hand over the crown. Congratulations Aleesha.

Second place was taken by Miss Garifuna Belmopan, Taruni Wanigi Gonzalez, my daughter with whom I so pleased.

Third place went to Miss Garifuna Hopkins, Cleandra Casimiro and fourth went to Yvette Mariano, Miss Seine Bight.

Congratulations are also in order for Miss Garifuna Georgetown- Daphne Fernandez and Miss Belize City, Daphne Graham and Miss Peini Jasmine Diego.

The National Garifuna Council expresses gratitude to all the sponsors and those who contributed in service to make the pageant a success.

The Directors of ceremonies Job Coleman and Wahrisi Elijio must also be applauded for a job well done.

The next year’s pageant will be hosted by Belmopan Branch of the National Garifuna Council.

Congratulations to Ms. Dahjah Casimiro for representing the culture capital well.

Whether or not Dangriga will do a three-peet is yet to be seen.

I am sure that will be the goal.
