Villagers in San Vicente receive water pump donation

Friday, April 24^th, 2015. BMG: San Vicente is one of the most remote villages in the Toledo District as it located 43 miles away from the Punta Gorda Town. Like many communities, San Vicente has seen its fair share of challenges, one of them being the lack of electricity.  The village is the closes bordering the nearby Guatemalan village of Santa Cruz and if the challenges of the villagers living there weren’t enough, in June of last year their generator used to pump water stopped functioning.

The generator pumped water from the villages well into the houses and it was the norm for villagers to carry water by buckets from the well to their homes. And in an effort to try to bring some relief to the community, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development donated a brand new Mitsubishi generator to the people of San Vicente on Thursday, April 23rd 2015.

The machine has a price tag of $28,000.00 Belize dollars. The generator, two 8,000 gallon Rotoplas water tanks, and10 lengths of water pipes will be handed over next week to the village. San Vicente villagers are excited and are looking forward to having running water, which will surely be appreciated in this extremely hot weather.
