Tuesday, September 8th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Sunday’s Power to the People Rally and endorsement of Major Lloyd Jones in Belize Rural North was crashed by an unlikely visitor – the area representative, Hon. Edmond “Clear the Land” Castro.
It appears the two-term representative and Minister of State wanted to see for himself how the competition was doing and visited the Sandhill Community Grounds in his personal vehicle with an unnamed passenger.
But as the passenger took pictures of the event and persons attending, PUP supporters, incensed, crowded around his vehice and began throwing multiple projectiles at it, forcing Castro to retreat the way he came.
Castro told 7 News on Monday that he will check his vehicle for any damage, but is satisfied that as far as he could tell, none of those who attended were “his people” in the constituency.
An estimated 500-800 persons were present, most identifiably from other divisions. Castro accuses a “rowdy crowd” from Belize City of attacking him as he was just leaving and insists he wasn’t breaking the law, just observing.
The PUP, however, believe it was naked intimidation and have warned Castro not to take it any further.
