Man hangs himself while detained in OW

By BBN Staff: Orange Walk Police are currently investigating the details surrounding the suicide of a male prisoner while in custody. 

Twenty-nine year old Luis Magaña was detained after his wife had made a report against him on Thursday, June 16.  Magaña was later detained and placed in cell number three at the Orange walk holding cells.

At 12:15 a.m. police officers discovered Magaña’s body hanging from a piece of cloth which was tied onto the bar of the cell with a brown belt around his neck.

Magaña’s body was transported to the Orange Walk Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:53 a.m.

Magana’s body awaits a postmortem at Northern Regional Hospital Morgue. Police are investigating.
