By BBN Staff: In the wake of the Auditor General’s explosive four volume report on corruption in Immigration, Nationality and Visa departments an investigator assigned to the Elvin Penner-Won Hong Kim passport scandal has broken his silence and has made public allegations that the investigation was muzzled by the government.
Retired Superintendent of Police Julio Valdez called in to Krem’s Wake Up Belize radio show on Monday morning and made the explosive allegations. According to Valdez, high level government officials made sure that no-one was ever held criminally responsible for the Penner-Kim scandal.
Valdez alleges that he was ordered to limit his investigating team’s focus to how attorney Arthur Saldivar was able to obtain Immigration Department documents. Valdez said the investigation did not include interviewing any of the people accused of being involved with the passport scandal and his only focus was on finding out how the Immigration Department documents leaked.
Those documents, Valdez alleges, were scheduled to be destroyed but Saldivar got a hold of them before then.
