By BBN Staff: This week an elderly woman appeared in court after she was busted with crack-cocaine.
Our colleagues at 7News reported that 67 year old Ida Simpson, a resident of Gan’s Rest House in Belize City was busted last week Friday with 0.6 grams of crack-cocaine.
Simpson, told the court that she had bought the drugs from a boy on the street for only $3.
Simpson immediately pled guilty to the possession of the controlled drug.
However, 7 News reported that, “She told the Magistrate that she used the crack as a substitute for Advil or Anacin.”
Fortunately, Magistrate Carlon Mendoza decided to impose a non-custodial charge, fining her $100 plus a $5 court fee instead of jail time.
When Mendoza asked if she had any form of income, she told him that she only made money from carrying bags for people.
Simpson has until May 23 to pay the fine or in default she will spend one month in prison.
