Work set to begin on Philip Goldson highway

By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Works, today signed a construction contract with Cisco Construction Ltd.

 The contract is valued at BZ $20,899,031.40, to carry out Section B of the Fifth Road Project.

The Government has secured a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for the Fifth Road Project (Philip S.W. Goldson Highway Upgrading).  This project, located in Belize City and Ladyville is divided into several components, two of which directly address road infrastructure: Section A (Airport Road Junction to Haulover Bridge) and Section B (Haulover Bridge to Buttonwood Bay Boulevard Roundabout).

Section B of this project involves the upgrading of the Philip Goldson Highway from its intersection with Buttonwood Bay Boulevard Roundabout to the approach of the Haulover Bridge.

The project will also facilitate in the improvement of underground infrastructure for the utility companies, namely, Belize Water Services, Belize Telemedia Limited and Belize Electricity Limited.

Work is expected to commence immediately.

The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Works – Project Execution Unit, while Beca International Consultants of New Zealand will provide technical supervision.
