By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) have issued a press release condemning the disruption of the hearing of the Special Senate Select Committee on May, 17, 2017 by the UDP Chairman, Alberto August, Brian “Yellowman” Audinett, and Allan Kelly.

“It is crystal clear that their behaviour in the gallery was orchestrated to delay or perhaps even halt the very revealing testimony being given by former UDP Minister Elvin Penner. It is unacceptable that the Chairman of the Senate Committee, UDP appointed Senator Aldo Salazar allowed the disruption to unfold as it did without demanding that Police take control of the UDP cronies who were deliberately disrupting the Senate inquiry,” the PUP release states.

According to the PUP, the behaviour by the UDP agents disrespects the National Assembly and should not be tolerated.

“We call on the Prime Minister to discipline his thugs and instruct them not to return to the Senate and misbehave again. The PUP demands that the Prime Minister rein in his Sergeant at Arms, Brian “Yellowman” Audinett, who acted criminally by assaulting two members of the media and threatening to throw another one over the railing of the gallery,” the PUP further stated in their release.

The PUP says that they strongly condemn this vicious assault on the press by August, Audinett and Kelly.

“This type of criminality cannot be countenanced, and we encourage the media to take appropriate steps and to demand action. We also call on the Prime Minister to explain why it is that his Chairman and thugs were there in the first place to stop the hearing. We note that in his testimony just prior to the antics in the gallery, Penner insisted that the Prime Minister and Cabinet did receive monthly activity reports from the Ministry of Immigration, which would mean that Mr. Barrow knew what was going on in that Department”.

The PUP ends their release by calling on other organizations and social partners to decry the actions of the UDP in the Senate on Wednesday.

“Their actions represent a dangerous assault on our media and on our democracy.”
