Alleged rapist shot and caught by cops

Posted: Sunday, August 13, 2017. 9:17 am. CST.

By BBN Staff: A 19-year-old motorcyclist accused of raping a hitchhiking passenger he picked up yesterday was shot while attempting to escape from police in southern Belize.

According to police, a teen girl reported that she caught a ride with Andy Pop, who she did not know, from Hopkins to the junction of the Southern Highway. The girl, however, told police that when Pop reached the junction, he did not stop and instead proceeded up the highway to Maya Center village.

According to the girl, Pop then stopped down a feeder road somewhere between miles 18 and 19, where he allegedly raped her. During the ordeal, the girl said she noticed a tattoo with the name “Rosita” and some star designs around it. The girl said she managed to escape and ran to the highway where a passerby took her to the Santa Cruz police station.

Police then returned to the area shortly after where cops reportedly identified Pop, who was on his cycle, and ordered him to stop. Pop, however, ignored the police and rode off, which is when an officer fired a single shot at him. Pop was shot once to the left foot, disabling him from taking off. He was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital for treatment. Police investigations into the matter continue.
