By BBN Staff: On Friday Prime Minister Dean Barrow departed the country en route to Houston Texas on personal leave.
He returned around midday today and a cadre of media personnel awaited him to seek his reaction to the recent ruling of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), in which the government of Belize was ordered to pay over $90 million to the Belize Bank in relation to the controversial Universal Health Services (UHS) agreement signed by former Prime Minister Said Musa.
Several of Barrow’s colleagues in Cabinet have publicly expressed that they will not vote in support of paying the bank when the matter goes before the National Assembly.
Instead of fielding questions from the media on the controversial issue, however, Barrow reportedly slipped away from the airport via a vehicle waiting on the runway.
A sitting of the House of Representatives has been scheduled for Friday, when it is expected that Barrow will present the motion to parliament to pay the award.
