Several UDP and PUP parliamentarians say no to $90 million payment

Posted: Tuesday, November 28, 2017. 8:38 am CST.

BBN Staff: Since the Caribbean Court of  Justice (CCJ) ruled that Belize should pay Belize Bank over 90 million dollars for the controversial Universal Health Services agreement, we have polled several UDP officials if they would support paying the $90 million when it is raised in the National Assembly.

Several of them have indicated they will not do so.

We tried to press the Prime Minister for answer yesterday but he dodged us at the international airport.

So while we somewhat know the voting inclinations of the UDP, we have also learnt the inclinations of the PUP.

They more than likely will not vote to make the payment.

The Amandala Newspaper reported that sources close to the PUP have indicated that a large number of PUP parliamentarians will not support paying the loan.

However, like the UDPs, the PUPs have not gone on the public record with their position.

They were to meet in caucus on Wednesday ahead of the Special Sitting of the House of Representatives previously scheduled for this Friday but because of the postponement their meeting too has been postponed.
