7 months later; still no bridge for Santa Teresita Village

Posted: Sunday, June 3, 2018. 7:21 pm CST.

BBN Staff:  BBN readers will recall that in October of last year (See story here: https://breakingbelizenews.com/2017/10/04/bridge-santa-teresita-collapses/), we reported on the collapse of a bridge in Santa Teresita Village, Cayo District.

It is now 7 months and the village has still not received a new bridge.

Some concerned villagers contacted BBN to express their grave discontent with the relevant authorities for not giving importance to the situation.

The residents shared pictures of the flooding in the village that occurs everytime it rains.

For their own use, they have installed a beam across from one side to the next so that they can walk.

One of the villagers explained to us that they have contacted their area representative, Rene Montero but to no avail, since no effort has been made to alleviate the situation.

“ We had a bridge but since it went down, we haven’t had another one for so many months. We put a beam to pass there but we really need a bridge. I hope the people in charge really do something about this”, one of the villagers told us.

The villager also shared with us that he believes that nobody in authority is really looking into the situation since nobody has been in the community to assess the situation.
