Taiwan’s Foreign Minister to visit Belize

Posted: Wednesday, July 11, 2018. 11:28 am CST.

BBN Staff: Belize and Taiwan continue to enjoy bilateral relations.

The Foreign Minister of Taiwan, Joseph Wu leaves Taiwan today on a five day visit to two Central American allies, El Salvador and Belize.

Over the past few years, China has taken away four of Taiwan’s allies including Panama and the Dominican Republic.

Taiwan now only has 18 diplomatic allies, most of which are from Latin America, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

The five-day trip to El Salvador and Belize is to share Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-Wen’s interest in friendship and bilateral cooperation with the leaders of Belize and El Salvador.

Today, Wu is scheduled to meet with Salvadoran President Salvador Ceren and Vice President Oscar Ortiz.

Wu will engage in other bilateral meetings from July 12 through to July 15.

Wu will then visit Belize on July 16 and 17 and will meet with Prime Minister Dean Barrow and the Taiwan Embassy in Belize.
