Police monitoring criminal activities; State of Emergency may be called again

Posted: Tuesday, November 6, 2018. 10:09 am CST.

BBN Staff: There has been an increase in criminal activities including robberies in Belize city over the last few weeks.

A responding police officer was shot and killed by robbers at Belcove hotel in Belize City last week.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, yesterday warned gangs that the police are closely monitoring their activities and threatened that if needed, another state of emergency would be imposed.

“We are currently monitoring the activities of the different gang groups and, I will tell you, monitoring very closely. And if it is that we see that they continue these sort of actions, as well as targeting each other, so much so that it puts the lives of the ordinary law abiding people at risk or in some degree of threat, then we might move to invoke the State of Emergency again and have them away for the September and Christmas season,” Williams asserted.

Williams says that the police will take the necessary actions to ensure that the masses do not suffer at the hands of the minority.
