Posted: Saturday, May 18, 2019. 5:31 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Chocolate lovers are eagerly awaiting the Commonwealth Holiday Weekend for the 2019 installment of Belize’s Chocolate Festival, held annually in southern Belize.

The one-of-a-kind Belizean experience takes place from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26, with a series of events all geared towards showcasing the best in Belizean chocolate products. On the night of Friday, May 24, the event begins with the signature Wine and Chocolate Gala, to be held at Garbutt’s Marine and Fishing Lodge in Hopeville Punta Gorda. The event will feature chocolaty drinks, foods, and live entertainment.

On Saturday, all roads lead to the Taste of Toledo Street Fair, to be held on Front Street in Punta Gorda Town. The festival will feature various booths showcasing chocolate products with everything from snacks to soap made from chocolate. The event closes on Sunday, with the family fun day at the Maya Temple of Nim Li Punit. That event will feature cultural performances throughout the day from various Maya groups, as well as the popular Deer Dance.

The festival has been a major event on Belize’s calendar since 2007.
