Belize starts with deficit in CONCACAF Nations League

Posted: Thursday, September 5, 2019. 6:34 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belize’s Jaguars lost today’s match versus French Guiana without stepping foot on the field at the Stade Municipal Dr. Edmard Lama, in Cayenne.

After the Football Federation of Belize informed CONCACAF that they “will not be able to report” for the CONCACAF Nations League match vs French Guiana today, the three points have been awarded to French Guiana.

CONCACAF said, “As per the competition regulations, …Belize shall be considered to have lost the match 3-0 and three points have been awarded to French Guiana. Additionally, the matter will be referred to the CONCACAF Disciplinary Committee for further review.”

This puts added pressure on Vincenzo Annese’s men ahead of Sunday’s home match with Grenada, who beat St. Kitts and Nevis 2-1 in the other group match today. That game kicks off at 4 p.m. at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.

Belize will get its chance at revenge in November when the Guianese visit.
