Fugitive thief gets away with fine

By Aaron Humes: 56-year-old Bert Keith Sylvester, a fisherman of Giles Street, Belize City, is accused of stealing from Benny’s Home Center on the Philip Goldson Highway and then leading police in a chase that ended with him being bumped by a driver.

He pleaded guilty in court but was spared jail by Magistrate Khadeen Palmer, who issued a fine of $500 to be paid by December 1, 2019.

Sylvester was charged with the theft of a box of 100 hack saw blades valued at $254.00, the property of Benny’s Home Center.
