$40,000  in counterfeit US dollars seized from Mexican National

Posted: Saturday, October 12, 2019. 2:56 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: A report from 7 News Belize is asserting that a Mexican national was busted at the Philip Goldson International airport yesterday smuggling $40,800 in counterfeit US dollars.

It is expected that authorities will bring charges against the Mexican this weekend.

The Mexican national was travelling with 2 Brazilians who were given the ‘RLL notice’- – “refused leave to land – and are going back to their country.”

According to the report, the money was found in a suitcase that the Mexican arrived with.

The money was undeclared and when Belizean authorities checked, it was all counterfeit.

In addition, police believe that the money was destined for Belize to enter the black market.

The travelers told police that they were travelling to Mexico.

We will have more details when police issues an official report.
