By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that it continues to monitor a broad area of low pressure in the Caribbean.
The NHC says that disorganized showers and thunderstorm over the southwestern Caribbean Sea and portions of Central America are associated with a broad area of low pressure over eastern Honduras.
The system is forecasted to continue moving west-northwestward across northern Honduras, southern Belize, and northern Guatemala, which is likely to inhibit tropical cyclone formation for the next couple of days due to land interaction.
By Wednesday, however, the disturbance is forecast to emerge over the southern Bay of Campeche where conditions could become a little more conducive for some organization to occur.
Regardless of development, the system is expected to produce heavy rains over portions of Central America during the next few days, which could cause flooding and mudslides, especially in mountainous areas.
As a result of developments with this approaching area of low pressure, the National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued a flood alert for Southern Belize and low lying flood prone areas across the country.
According to the local forecast, heavy rains will increase over the south on Sunday night and spread to most areas on Monday and Monday night.
