By Aaron Humes: Twenty-nine-year-old Albert Reid, alias “Cat” of Hattieville, Belize District, limped into court Monday to respond to six offenses as a result of a family argument.
On December 30, at Mile 15, George Price Highway, in Hattieville, Reid and his common-law wife had a dispute which led to Reid using threatening words at his wife’s grandmother while allegedly armed with a machete and using it to damage the burglar bars on the window of her house.
Police were called and constables Tony Gamboa and Randy Lyons were confronted as they arrived by Reid, who waved the machete at them in a threatening manner. Reid reportedly refused to put down the machete and one of the officers shot him in his leg. Reid put down the machete and he was taken into custody. He was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where his leg, broken by the bullet, was put in a cast.
Reid pleaded guilty before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson to two counts aggravated assault; two counts threat of death; and one count each of damage to property and using threatening words. He was fined a total of $2,300.
He had previously been acquitted of a murder charge in May of 2018.
