Jumoke Castro placed on administrative leave

Posted: Thursday, January 9, 2020. 4:05 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The saga continues for Jumoke Castro, son of Transport Minister Edmond Castro, as his comments threatening sexual violence against a member of the media last year have landed him on administrative leave from his job at the Belize Tax Service (BTS).

We have confirmed that Castro, who in December 2019 made several atrocious comments via a Facebook post directed towards Shatsa Wade, manager of Plus TV, will have to explain himself to his superiors at the BTS and his job may be on the line.

His comments garnered widespread condemnation from individuals, NGO’s, political third parties, media houses and were a topic of discussion in parliament. Days after his original post, Castro followed up with another, attempting to justify his statement and apologizing to the women he may have offended with it.

His “apology” did not stop Wade from making a formal complaint to police and reports are that the matter is being reviewed by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
