Plasma treatment showing promise in coronavirus patients

Posted: Friday, April 10, 2020. 1:11 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Local news outlets in Houston, USA are reporting that the research on plasma treatment for COVID-19 patients is showing promising results.

According to the report, Baylor College of Medicine and Houston Methodist informed that the experimental therapies were looking positive.

The treatment is called COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma.

The treatment includes doctors drawing plasma from patients who have recovered from COVID-19 since they have antibodies in their blood that can fight the virus.

The doctors then transfused the plasma into sick COVID-19 patients.

The plasma could help the sick patient recover. The current research is taking place across the world.

A study done in China found that severe COVID-19 symptoms rapidly improved within three days after one dose of convalescent plasma.

The doctors are now working on identifying potential plasma donors to assist with the treatment.
