Senior citizen struck in hit and run accident

By Aaron Humes: The family of 68-year-old Rudolph Rodriguez is demanding that police arrest the man who struck and killed him Saturday night on the Old Northern Highway just outside of Sandhill, Belize District.

Rodriguez died Tuesday afternoon of complications caused by his severe injuries. His family says the person involved is known in society and they have no indication of whether he is being pursued.

A family member told reporters that he was on his way back from a construction job and was walking his bicycle into the highway when he was struck. He was rushed immediately to the hospital and lingered for two days before his passing.

Police said during Tuesday’s press briefing in Belmopan that they have impounded a Chevrolet Trail Blazer found in the Maxboro area and continue their investigations.
