Return of restaurants, casinos, gyms

Posted: Saturday, May 30, 2020. 3:48 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes:  Street vendors can return from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. under the new regulations subject to the usual recommendations.

All restaurants can reopen subject to social distancing including spacing inside and reservation for groups.

Gyms will be open and the National Sports Council will issue rules for their use. However, only the Marion Jones Sporting Complex is open among sports stadia and centers.

Casinos provided healthy debate, according to the Attorney General, as there is much touching and use of cigarettes. Smoking is prohibited and social distancing rules are in effect.

The casinos in the Free Zone are excluded as the Zone itself remains closed.

The limit on persons in mass gatherings is now 40, up from 10. Again, social distancing and mask wearing is in effect and the A.G. warned common sense must be common.

Churches may operate between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. at a limit of 40, as church organizations asked for.

Tennis, volleyball (three-a-side) and athletics can return, the latter at Marion Jones, and regulations are waived only when actually playing.

Basketball and football remain closed due to contact concerns.
