By Aaron Humes: Never ones to let an opportunity for ridicule go to waste, the now-Opposition United Democratic Party let loose a broadside this evening at the new government of Prime Minister John Briceño.
It maintains that just because persons announced to be Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s) have not officially been appointed by the Governor-General, as contended by Briceño, does not mean they have not been out and about acting as such if the news reports over the past week are to be believed.
The UDP sardonically observes that it “notes with great concern the lack of decisive, sober and thoughtful leadership in the Office of the Prime Minister needed at this time to navigate the country through a viral pandemic and weather-related disaster.”
It cites canceled press conferences, abuse of public officers, and several botched executive appointments, underscoring arguments it says it made, apparently not successfully, at last week’s general election: that Briceño is not fit to lead and that his colleagues haven’t changed their spots.
Of charges raised this evening in the Prime Minister’s address about its stewardship of the economy and COVID-19 pandemic in the waning days of its administration, the UDP said nothing.
But it asked in conclusion: “Are we to expect the same kind of indecisive leadership from Prime Minister Briceño as the PUP received from Party Leader Briceño?” The answer to that is as yet untold.
