Massive lines in front of Belmopan Police Station and the Police Training Academy in attempt to meet application deadline for new recruits

By BBN Staff: Reports coming from the Cayo District are that hundreds of Belizeans are gathering outside the Belmopan Police Station to apply for police records.

The mass move to apply for police records coincides with the upcoming deadline to apply for the Belize Police Department’s intake 95. The deadline is Thursday, December 31, leaving many hopeful applicants trying to get their police records processed over the past few weeks, with the lines reportedly becoming longer each day. The lines have been ongoing from early last week, but eyewitnesses and police sources tell BBN that the lines were the longest today.

In addition there were 3 separate lines at the Police Training Academy where applicants were submitting their completed application forms.

Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, noted that there are only 225 spaces in the upcoming intake, with an increasing number of youths submitting applications.

“We are seeing a very large number of young people coming out, highly qualified young people, some of them with bachelor’s degrees, applying to become police officers,” Musa said.
