By Benjamin Flowers: Former Belize Branch Treasurer of the Public Service Union (PSU) Jennifer Myvett defended two reports she made regarding irregularities in the financials of the union’s Belize District Branch, after PSU First Vice President Dean Flowers, said the documents were fake.
Myvett said that the reports are in fact, real documents, prepared by her personally and submitted to the branch members, but that Flowers and some of his loyalists within the union are trying to discredit her work.
“I am a senior auditor working in the Office of the Auditor General for over 17 years. I write reports based on facts and would never take the risk of producing false reports and bring an institution into disrepute,” Myvett said. ” The union is demanding accountability and transparency from the government and they are having the same issues.”
Myvett added that she is the first treasurer to openly report on these issues, as she learned that her predecessors were afraid to do so. She called on the union to lead by example and show the level of accountability it is demanding from the government.
Breaking Belize News obtained a copy of the report which was dated November 7, 2020. The document chronicled Myvett’s investigation into thousands of unaccounted for dollars, missing receipts, receipts with incorrect dates, payments that should have been made to the union being paid to the branch chair’s personal account, and other questionable financial practices which she felt were being either facilitated or deliberately overlooked by members of the national executive.
Breaking Belize News reached out to Flowers for comment, however, he has not replied. We’ll have a thorough breakdown of Myvett’s report in a subsequent article.
