By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “My prayers and condolences got out to the family of Haitian President, Jovenel Moïse. May those who committed this heinous act be held accountable. I encourage the people of our regional neighbors, Haiti, to move forward through these uncertain times in a peaceful and calm manner,” Prime Minister John Briceño posted on social media after the assassination of Haitian president Jovenel Moïse.
In a statement on Haitian media, Prime Minister and now interim president Claude Joseph said a group of armed men raided the president’s residence at around 1:00 am, killed the president, and injured his wife.
Joseph also said the situation was under control and he was having meetings with the high brass of the National Police to ensure the continuity of the State and to maintain security.
