One death and multiple hospitalizations due to COVID-19

By BBN Staff: Health authorities are reporting another COVID-19 death in Belize. The person is a male and brings the total deaths due to, or related to, COVID-19 to 341. The case fatality rate continues to hover around 2.34%.

In addition, there are 16 persons hospitalized, 5 of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

On the positive side, there were 42 recoveries reported bringing the total recoveries to —. As of today, 94.2% of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered from the disease.

After taking into account the 79 cases identified and the 42 recoveries today, a total of 493 cases remain active.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness notes that its COVID-19 vaccine campaign is ongoing countrywide. According to the Ministry, vaccines are now available for anyone who is 18 years and older.

The Ministry also advises “that even after getting vaccinated, persons are to continue wearing a face mask properly in public, maintain consistent physical distancing, avoid social gatherings, and wash and sanitize hands often”
