By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Philadelphia Adult League Softball (PALS), with assistance from the Belize City Softball Association (BCSA), is donating $20,000 worth of baseball and softball gear to six organizations in Belize City through the Community Clubs Equipment Grant Programme.

“We are expecting 200 to 260 youth to participate in this program and be immediate beneficiaries and 3,000 to 4,000 youth from Belize City to benefit annually through our youth softball-baseball program,” said BCSA president Shane Williams in a press release.

“In 2019 we partnered to donate over $40,000 in gears to 14 learning institutions.”

Representatives of PALS are arriving in Belize on Wednesday, August 11, and as of Thursday they will be conducting clinics and distributing the sporting equipment to the different organizations, Williams said.

“They will host baseball clinics for children on Thursday at the Albert Hoy Field on Raccoon Street and the Belama Phase 4 Park,” Williams said.

“On Friday afternoon they will host a clinic at the Yabra Field and on Saturday afternoon at Jane Usher Field. Following each clinic, PALS will leave a full set of baseball/softball gears for the community to continue to use and enjoy. Our guests also hope to visit the Youth Hostel to donate gears to the institution.”

Williams said in the release that the objective is for the sporting gear to be used to develop the quality and love of baseball and softball in marginalized communities of Belize City. As part of the programme, the community sports clubs must commit to participating in this training clinic for coaches and youths.

Williams said all camp participants will also receive school bags and supplies from community organizers.
