Hobbs Brewery to support 13-year-old shooting victim Kyron Green with medical and other expenses

By Aaron Humes: 13-year-old Kyron Green, shooting victim left confined to a wheelchair two years ago but slowly regaining mobility, is to be the beneficiary of donations from Hobbs Brewery Company, based on the Placencia Peninsula, for his continued medical care.

Breaking Belize News spoke this morning with the company’s owners who prefer to be identified as ‘Ron and Bill.’

They told us that half the proceeds from sales next week at Hobbs’ Beer Barge opposite the brewery on the Placencia Road will be donated to Green and his family, as well as from sales of Hobbs’ new product, the mango-flavoured Hefen Weiser Draft, and various raffles. The barge is open daily from 9 a.m. to curfew time at 9 p.m.

“We want to encourage not only Belizeans but other companies like Belikin to meet the challenge. No child should be subject to an accident like that and it is important he get a chance to live,” the company said in a statement.

They added they were moved by media reports of the plight of Green and his mother Marsha Belisle. The youngster has fought his way back from near-paralysis to something approaching mobility but needs continued care and support. His family is working with the World Pediatric Project and Shriners’ Hospital for Children in Pennsylvania, United States.

Marsha Belisle, reached this afternoon, told us she was thankful for the assistance, calling it wonderful, and said Kyron, now in high school, would be thrilled. She estimated she would need about US$5,000 for expenses while in the States but the cost of the operation is covered by the World Pediatric Project and previous donations. The family leaves on Sunday.
