5K for Unity in Christ races set for Saturday in Belize City, San Ignacio-Santa Elena

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 5K for Unity in Christ races are on Saturday, January 22 in Belize City and San Ignacio.

The races are one of several activities gearing up to the upcoming Roman Catholic Church Synod.

A Holy Mass on the Feast Day of St. Sebastian, patron saint of athletes, was held on Thursday at Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Belize City in celebration of Belize’s athletes and the 5K for Unity in Christ.

The race in Belize City will start at 6:00 in the morning at BTL Park where it will head to the Baron Bliss Lighthouse and back. Registration will be from 5:15 to 5:45 am on race day.

In San Ignacio, the race will also start at 6:00 am at the Falcon Field.

Two other races are planned. The one in the South will be in Punta Gorda next Saturday, January 29, while the one in Corozal was postponed due to the number of COVID-19 cases in that area.

The 5K for Unity in Christ race is open to athletes of “all ages and athletic abilities”.
