By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The US Embassy donated four Ford Ranger pickup trucks valued at USD $ 206,000 to the Belize Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC), according to a press release by the Government of Belize Press Office.

The JIOC is made up of the Belize Defence Force, Belize Coast Guard, Belize Police Department, the Customs and Excise, and Immigration departments.

The Ford Rangers should aid the JIOC “in investigating and countering transnational organized crime in Belize, particularly in the deployment of assets in remote areas,” said the Press Office.

U.S. Embassy Chargé D’affaires a.i. Leyla Moses-Ones presented the new vehicle keys to Oscar Mira, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security, and JIOC Director Lt. Commander Freddie Ku.

“These high-performance vehicles will support our shared goal of helping Belize’s security personnel disrupt, deter, and prosecute transnational organized crime,” said the US Embassy.

The donation was facilitated through the U.S. Government’s Foreign Military Financing grant program and coordinated through the U.S. Embassy’s Security Cooperation Office.
