‘Blue Bond’ gets office under Prime Minister

By Aaron Humes: There will be a new unit within the Government of Belize specifically responsible for managing the “Blue Bond.”

Cabinet has approved and announced the establishment of the Blue Bond and Project Finance for Permanence Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister, which it said will be responsible for ensuring that the government meets all its commitments in initiating and leading efforts geared towards the timely fulfillment of the agreement under this project.

As the Prime Minister reminded reporters on Wednesday, “Just imagine, in one year we paid off the Super Bond, we saved five hundred million dollars for the Belizean people, we set up the Blue Bond, and from that Blue Bond we are setting up a permanent trust fund for marine conservation that by 2040 will be at two hundred million dollars.”
