By Othon Castillo Jr: I have been and will be and will stay committed to the party I love – the United Democratic Party (UDP). Over the years I have traveled with the UDP countrywide assisting in party conventions, in village councils, municipal and conventions for standard bearers leading up to General Elections.

I have remained silent in the conventions for Party Leader because I was given the task to help at the conventions with the Secretariat and its working crew, and we had to be neutral when working at these conventions. Also I remained silent in the re-call convention, because over the years I working with the party I have come to love my party even more because I was a part of that rebuilding process. What I really hate is fighting within the party because we are a mass party still and it defeats the process of REFORM AND REBUILDING of our party.

Our party took two devastating losses at the polls recently in both General and Municipal elections, we are down in the mud and the fighting just sinks us deeper.

Now we are in the rebuilding process and honestly I haven’t seen any changes or process which the party has done for the past 14 months. Now we are faced with another Party Leadership Convention to find a new Leader for the Party.

This time around, I must state that I support the Shyne Barrow for Party Leader and I have no apologies to make.

Shyne has shown to be consistent in demanding reform for the party, he has been supportive of both John Saldivar and Patrick Faber in their quest for party leader.

Shyne took over the post of Opposition Leader in the House of Representatives and has shown that he wanted inclusivity of all UDP’s from all over the country. Why I say this is because he has reached out to many UDP’s, including myself, which personally as a strong supporter of the UDP, I was never granted that privilege of not one single visit from the previous Party Leader even though he knew my commitment with the party.

As a leader you need to show the people that you have that love for all of them. It’s the second time that I have been terminated under the PUP government, but that will never stop me from loving my party, but no one reached out to me to see how I was doing. Shyne did.

I have seen how committed he is about the seriousness of rebuilding this party with all hands on deck. We need a Leader who will walk the walk, talk the talk, and fight the fight.

People are seeing more of Shyne countrywide, even though he’s not the only elected member of our party the UDP. He has a global image which he has been using for the betterment of Belize through investments for our country. He has been using his influence to attract big names like DJ Khaled, Kanye West, Jay Z and other elite entertainers to visit, promote and invest in our country.

I know many people from within the UDP might want to attack me for my support for Shyne, but I will remain committed to my decision.

We all UDP’s must remember that we are going up against the PUP and not ourselves, the attacking and calling of names to each other within the party is what keeps us divided, how can we intend to rise if we ourselves keep fighting with each other?

With this I repeat I AM IN SUPPORT OF SHYNE BARROW to be given the opportunity to be party leader of the UDP.
